SOUP CAN In Real Life Social Media
SOUP CAN In Real Life Social Media was a month-long bartender-in-residence collaboration with Devon McKnight at Likewise in Portland. Each week developed into a new chapter shaped by the conversations and encounters that happened in the bar during the week before. The projects continually changed form, moving through installation, performance, film, social media, and collaborations with other artists. Neon provided a recurring visual language that connected the different chapters without forcing them into a single format.
The bar became both the site of the work and the material from which it developed. Rather than arriving with a fixed project, we treated each interaction as a possible starting point and invited patrons and collaborators into the process whenever possible. The residency used the everyday social structure of a bar to create an evolving artwork built through conversation, participation, and the unexpected relationships that formed over time. 2017
