Reclaimed acrylic and polycarbonate sheet are combined with new acrylic, using laser-cutting technology to create precise, reproducible forms. Plastic functions as a physical embodiment of human achievement: a completely synthetic material that is both beautiful and terrible. Bred for their beauty, koi are displayed as “living jewels” within elaborate ponds constructed as synthetic natural environments. As we approach our dream of beauty through perfection at what point do we become the koi? 2013
