Your Love

Your Love is a virtual reality performance set to Frankie Knuckles’ “Your Love.” While dancing in the physical world, my movements are translated into a virtual environment where I move through a series of radically different avatars. The body shifts between human, animal, robotic, gendered, and imagined forms as the dance continues.

The work uses the avatar as a space for discovery rather than disguise. Identity becomes something that can be tried on, exaggerated, abandoned, and reinvented through movement. These transformations celebrate the possibility of inhabiting bodies and ways of being that do not need to correspond to those available in physical life. The virtual body creates freedom to imagine differently while remaining connected to the embodied experience that activates it.

At the center of the work is the freedom of dancing. The technology does not replace the body but expands the forms through which the body can appear. Physical movement becomes virtual movement and the shifting avatar opens identity to experimentation and joy. 2022
